This year we’ve seen Google’s Nexus lineup go under some changes. In the past we had a new Nexus phone every year. But this year Google released their first Nexus tablet at Google I/O in June. It launched with Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean. Then come November 13th, Google released their first high-end tablet, the Nexus 10 build by Samsung. They also released the Nexus 4, a new Nexus smartphone built by LG. Both of these devices launched with Android 4.2. At Google I/O with the Nexus 7, Google also introduced the Nexus Q, which kinda died before it officially went on sale.
Now Google has already taken a stab at Google TV, and have had some great hardware partners in Sony and Logitech among others. Google also has the media from most of the larger labels, and companies. But unfortunately the media isn’t widely available outside of the US. For instance, Google Music just made it’s way over to our European friends. The Nexus Q was their first try at their own set-top streamer. But it didn’t pan out so well since the Nexus Q never made it to store shelves or even out of the pre-order phase. So what could be next for Google TV? We already saw the ASUS Qube at the FCC earlier tonight.
The folks over at t3n have put together some nice looking mockups of what Google could be going after with Google TV in the future. The pictures above are ‘Nexus Glasses’ which are inspired from Google Glasses. This is how t3n explains these glasses:
Nexus Glasses has two cameras for 3D images and two prisms for the augmented interface. At the same time she also works as a shutter glasses: Pre-recorded 3D images can be viewed in 3D on the TV again. Other 3D content can be viewed Sun The shutter glasses are removed if they interfere with daily life or in another diopter strength is desired.
Next we’ve got the Nexus TV Controller. Another mockup by t3n points at it being a full-touch Nexus remote which is optimized for interaction with TV. Including Menu Control, web browsing with and without TV. In addition to it being a remote, it can also function as a tablet.
The remote control is also loaded via induction which is located in the glass base of the TV, according to t3n. Just place the remote there and it can be charged easily. As shown in the image below.
Now onto the bread and butter of Google TV, the actual TV. Rather the Nexus TV. Judging by the picture below, it looks really sharp. Especially with that Nexus logo in the center of the bottom bezel. It is also a 3D-capable full HD LED TV. Which is housed in aluminum. In addition it has 2 cameras, which would make 3D video chat possible. Now that is something awesome.
