Last night we reported that the Takju Galaxy Nexus was getting Android 4.2.1, the very small 1.1MB update that basically adds December back into the People app. The update hit the Nexus 4, Nexus 10, and Nexus 7 yesterday as well. Now the Yakju Galaxy Nexus has now joined the updates. The Yakju is the Galaxy Nexus that was not available in the Play Store.
As you always can you can grab the OTA (Over-The-Air) zip below and follow the directions we outlined in our Takju post yesterday to flash it (Remember Android Headlines is not responsible for any damage caused to your device) or just simply spam Google’s servers and pull it down the easy way. You can pull down the update by doing the following:
- Go into Settings
- Tap About Phone
- Hit System Updates
- Tap Check Now
- Wait for your device to ping Google’s servers for the update (Need internet connection to complete)
If that doesn’t work you can also try putting your device in Airplane mode then going into Apps and clearing the cache and data from Google Services Framework, then re-enabling Airplane mode again. Then follow the directions above to pull down the update again. If that doesn’t work, you’ll just have to wait for Google to push it out to you.
The update from Android 4.2 to Android 4.2.1 is probably the smallest update we’ve seen in quite a while. But it is a very necessary update. As without it we’d be living in December without December in the People app. So people who have birthdays or anniversaries in December wouldn’t get reminders. It’s to bad that Google didn’t fix the many other problems we’ve found in Android 4.2. Especially the lag on the Nexus 7, the very slow charging on the Galaxy Nexus, and a slew of other problems.
So if you decide to flash the update on your Yakju Galaxy Nexus, let us know how it works out for you in the comments below. We’ll do our best to assist you if you run into any problems flashing.
