Today, the FCC had a meet and greet with the new Acer Iconia B1 tablet. The Iconia B1 is a new tablet that we haven’t really heard of before. So there are many questions that need to be answered. Most likely this won’t make a huge splash in the group of Android users who want the latest version of Android with the best specs. But it would be a good tablet for those that just want something for reading, and web surfing. Not only is the Iconia B1 looking to challenge Google and the Nexus 7, but also Barnes & Noble’s Nook tablet. As you can see in the image below, there’s a hook on the side, similar to the Nook tablet.
The rumored specs for the Iconia B1 are:
- 7-inch; 1024×600 resolution
- Dual-Core 1.2GHz processor
- 512MB of RAM
- 8GB internal storage; support for Micro SD cards
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS
- Android 4.1.2
Other than the specs above, not much else is mentioned in the FCC filing. But the Iconia B1 was spotted over on GLBenchmark recently and of course it showed some less than stellar results. But what do you expect from a tablet with those specs? There’s also rumors of this tablet being under $100, I guess we’ll have to wait and see if it is truly a sub-$100 tablet or not. But the specs are definitely there for that.
So we’ll probably see this Acer Iconia B1 at CES in Las Vegas, along with a bunch of other goodies from Huawei, ZTE, and others. Although I don’t expect any huge announcements from Samsung, HTC, Motorola, and LG, but who knows they could surprise us. We’ll have to wait until January to see.
Given the rumored specs, would you buy this tablet? Maybe for your kids, or even for others that don’t have a ton of knowledge in technology? Let us know in the comments what you think.
