Congratulations AT&T Motorola Atrix HD owners! The official OTA Jelly Bean update is now available for you to download. An option to update your device should be available soon. If you’re feeling a little impatient you can always spam the manual update check, which can be found under “Settings > About Phone > System Updates“. Otherwise, the update should be available soon, and that means you will see a notification alerting you about it.
The update brings the Motorola Atrix HD from ICS to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean respectively. This marks the fourth handset from AT&T to get a Jelly Bean update. The brief list of devices that have been updated already include the Galaxy Note 2, HTC One X+ and the Samsung Galaxy S3.
It also marks the fourth phone from Motorola to get the JB update. Now, if we can just convince them to move a little faster on updates for the rest of the devices out there, everything will be golden.
Several new features were included in the latest update, most of which were covered in the Android 4.1 changelog. By now, you probably know most of the new features included in Jelly Bean especially considering 4.2 is the new kid on the block, but that’s alright I’m going to cover the most prominent ones again.
To do a quick rundown, Atrix HD owners will now have access to Google Now, and a quick settings menu at the top of the notification window. Of course, Jelly Bean also brought more advanced functions for the notification tray and now users can respond to SMS and view full MMS attachments from directly within the notification window.
There’s also an improved camera, and a “filmstrip mode” for the photo gallery which allows users to delete unwanted images from their device by swiping down.
AT&T has also included their “It Can wait” software which helps educate teens on the dangers of texting and driving. The Drive Smart action and SMARTACTIONS Drive Rule allow users to set their device on a distinctive auto-reply and hands free mode, which makes driving and operating a mobile device much safer. Obviously, AT&T is trying to encourage responsible gadget use. Who knew they were such upstanding citizens?
Congrats again Moto Atrix HD owners! Make sure you use all those extra bells and whistles enough to make up for the rest of us still waiting for our own updates! No, I’m not bitter at all. Really, I’m not.
Okay, maybe just a little.
