Well for those of you with the original Droid Razr and Razr Maxx, Motorola and Verizon have sent you a Christmas present. They’ve sent you a big bowl of Jelly Beans. Yes, the Jelly Bean update is hitting the original Razr’s as we speak. So what version of Jelly Bean is it? It’s good old Android 4.1.2. Yeah not the latest, but at least you’re getting off of Ice Cream Sandwich, right?
In the update you’ll be getting all the goodies of Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean including:
- Expandable notifications
- Project Butter
- Google Now
- Other performance and Stability enhancements
- And more…
As far as Motorola’s skin goes, not much has changed, which means you’ll still be getting that near-stock experience on your Razr and Razr Maxx. Although not as close to stock as the Razr HD and Razr Maxx HD.
So far there’s no official documentation on Verizon’s website for the update. But you can expect it to be published very soon. The update is pretty large, as you’d expect, so unless you are on an unlimited plan still I suggest you connect to Wi-Fi before downloading the update. Go ahead and check to see if you can pull down the update:
- Go into Settings
- Tap on About Phone
- Hit Check for Updates
If you can’t pull down the update, you may have to wait a bit longer for your Jelly Beans, but they should be making their way to your device soon.
You have to give it up to Motorola for getting these Android 4.1 updates out so quickly. In the past they were very slow with getting out Android updates. But with Android 4.1 dropping in July and we are now in December, the Droid Razr HD, Droid Razr Maxx HD, Droid Razr M, Atrix HD, and now the Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx all have Android 4.1. That’s a pretty good turn around, especially with most of them being Verizon devices, am I right?
If you get your update, let us know in the comments below how you’re liking Jelly Bean.
