Well, it’s not looking to good for those in Europe looking to pick up that 5-inch 1080p, quad-core monster that is the HTC Butterfly. The device was announced for China only, and was never official for Europe. Expansys in the UK had it up for pre-order, but had no pricing information, no launch information, basically no information telling you when you’d get your device or how much it would cost you.
The folks over at Coolsmartphone, a UK-based website, had pre-ordered the device from Expansy. And over the weekend their pre-order was cancelled and they received this email from Expansys:
Thank you for your recent interest and preorder of the HTC Butterfly. Unfortunately, we have now been informed by HTC that this device will not be available in European markets, and as such we have had to remove it from our website and cancel your preorder.
So it definitely looks like the HTC Butterfly won’t be making its way into Europe. Unless someone at HTC Europe changes their mind pretty soon and gets the Butterfly into Europe. But with Mobile World Congress coming in less than two months, I’d expect to see something from HTC for the European market then. Hopefully it’ll be something close to what the HTC Butterfly was supposed to be. With it’s 5-inch glory and quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU. But we’ll learn more about that in February in Barcelona, Spain.
Who was looking forward to the HTC Butterfly coming to Europe? I’m sure many of you, and some of us in the US who were looking to import it for GSM carriers here. Especially since it looks like Verizon has exclusivity on their variant the Droid DNA here in the US, and HTC has no plans to bring it any other carriers. Hopefully things will change pretty soon so we can get a 5-inch HTC device for our European friends.
What do you think HTC will announce at Mobile World Congress in February? Could it be a European version of the HTC Butterfly/Droid DNA/J Butterfly. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
