This week the CM team has started rolling out CyanogenMod 10.1 nightly builds for many more devices in addition to the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10. For those that don’t know, CM 10.1 is based off of AOSP and Android 4.2. Now of course these nightlies do have bugs in them, hence the name “nightlies”. But a new device popped up with a nightly build. Okay it’s not actually a new device, but it’s new to the CyanogenMod 10.1 family. The HTC G2 (the G1’s successor) now has Android 4.2 in the form of CyanogenMod 10.1. Now we all know how much support the HTC G1 got, and still kinda gets, but the G2 was pretty mush abandoned very quickly.
While it is the first nightly for the G2, it’s still nice to see the device getting some love from the developer community. CyanogenMod 10.1 has been very stable on my Nexus 4, but this device has been getting nightlies for a few weeks now. And it’s very simple to build a ROM from stock Android, compared to other devices like the Galaxy S3, HTC One X, and HTC G2. So if anyone is willing to try the CM10.1 nightlies on the HTC G2, be sure to leave a comment below and let us know how it works for you.
Downloads:
Make sure you download both of the above zips. Place them on your G2 (or HTC Vision if it’s the international version). Then follow these instructions:
- Reboot into Recovery
- Install from SD card
- Select CM10.1 and Confirm the install
- Select Gapps and Confirm the install
- Go back to the main menu
- Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Select Advanced, then Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Go back to Main menu
- Reboot
Your first boot may take longer than usual because your device needs to rebuild the cache and get everything in place. But it should take more than 5 minutes. After that, just set up your device like normal and enjoy some Android 4.2 – Jelly Bean goodness on your T-Mobile G2, or HTC Vision. Let us know in the comments how it works out for you.
