It seems that Samsung are continuing their role of making sure their devices are more up-to-date than anybody else’s with today’s latest release. The Note II was one of the first devices on the market to launch with Jelly Bean and Samsung are keeping the device as relevant as they can. There’s word coming out of Europe that the International variant of the Galaxy Note II is getting updated to Android 4.1.2 and while that might not be the bleeding edge of Android 4.2, it’s still good to see that Samsung are continuing to support their devices in this sort of manner.
That’s not all that the Note II is getting in this latest update though, as there are a number of enhancements coming to the device as well an extra feature or two. Samsung have been doing this all year long by adding to the already well-stacked build of TouchWiz that has shipped with this year’s devices. While some might say that it’s only making TouchWiz worse, I’m sure that Note II users out there will be happy to get their hands on the new features. Take a look at the list below to see what’s coming with the 4.1.2 update:
- Notification Panel can now be customized as well as some added toggles.
- Multi-View is now optional
- The Browser is that little bit smoother
- The status bar has been changed from Grey to Black
- The Samsung Keyboard now supports continuous input
- There’s a new “ink” effect on the lockscreen
- New Group Cast app has been added
As well as all that there is the usual big fixes to be found in Android 4.1.2 and perhaps this update will be a little kinder on battery life. Right now there are only reports of the update hitting phones in Poland and Sweden. In Sweden those running the LTE version of the phone are getting the update so, while this isn’t great news for those in the US it’s a sign of progress nonetheless. It shouldn’t be too long until we see an update for the phone roll out in the States. After all, Samsung will be keen to have the phone updated with some added features before Christmas.
Who’re you betting on to release the update first? My money’s on Sprint.
