Well something weird is going on in Ingress land this morning. Last night we first noticed that the enlightened mind unit count had jumped up to 641 billion once again. Now this morning we are seeing all these portals and links decaying. Okay we know they decay after 10 days, but what about ones that just got put up in the past 24 hours? Something strange is going on indeed. We are also seeing the mind unit counts for both the Resistance and Enlightened sides dropping drastically and quickly.
So we are seeing people posting on Google+ that Ingress is being reset. Now we have no idea whether it is or not. So far it looks like it’s just links and control fields that are dropping, and not actual portals. So could this be the start of Ingress going into open beta? Who knows. We’ll keep hunting for news about what’s going on. But in the meantime we thought you’d like to stay informed. Of course this could just be part of the game, similar to what happened on Wednesday when it was 12/12/12 and the Enlightened jumped to 641 billion mind units, but we’ll have to wait and see.
If this is the end of closed beta for Ingress, well that means the game is doing well and most of the bugs are worked out. Which is always good to see. If you hear anything else about this, please let us know in the comments below.
Update According to Ingress Enlightened Kansai Japan: “They are adding in the user submitted portals and have collapsed any fields that could trap a new portal from other users, as well as repositioning inaccurate or dangerous portals. ”
