It seems like getting the newest Google flagship device, the Nexus 4 built by LG, has been tougher than getting an Ingress invite. Yes it’s that bad. We’ve seen shipping estimates in the Play Store as high as 9-10 weeks here in the US. And those in other parts of the world have seen close to the same when the Nexus 4 went back on sale this week and last week.
So the Nexus 4 is back on T-Mobile’s website, once again. But this time it’s selling for $399.99. Oh and that’s the subsidized price, so you’re still stuck with a 2-year contract. That’s a huge increase from the $199.99 on contract we saw when the device first launched back in November. It’s also still $499.99 full price if you want to buy it for pre-paid or on their Value Plan. While it is still $100 off the “Suggested retail” price, it’s also $50 more expensive than buying it from the Google Play Store, not to mention you’re on a 2-year contract with this one.
We aren’t sure if this is just another mistake by T-Mobile with the Nexus 4. We remember when they said the device had a micro SD card slot right? But maybe they’ve raised it because of how much trouble Google’s been having getting devices out to those that wanted them. And here’s a fun fact for ya, the Nexus 4 costs more on-contract than the Galaxy Note 2 does on Contract! Now that’s something strange right there. Hopefully this is just a mistake and that T-Mobile fixes it as soon as possible.
But T-Mobile has done well in the past in selling devices for higher than other carriers. For example the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 are both significantly higher than other carriers, even Verizon. And yet, the Galaxy S3 is their top-selling device, or at least it was a month ago. That may have changed now with the Note 2 and Nexus 4 now being available from T-Mobile.
Who’s gotten their Nexus 4 already? Anybody willing to buy one from T-Mobile? Let us know in the comments.
