Rumors Of Xiaomi's MI-Three Surface

Rumors of the next Xiaomi Tech smartphone have recently been making the internet rounds and since we aren’t the type of site to deny any of you some good gossip, we’re here to pass along the info. You may not think that you know this company but if you’ve ever heard of the popular MIUI ROMs, then you’ve heard of Xiaomi.

This latest bit of Intel is about a followup device in their MI line of handsets. The MI line offers high end specs at mid range prices in China. They also have one of the best naming conventions going, MI-(#), simple and easy to follow.

So far the company only sells their smartphones online and in small quantities realizing that their success is tied into the short supply / high quality model. This may sound familiar to anyone who recently participated  in the Nexus 4 donnybrook.

The MI-Three follows up on the legacy built by the MI-One and MI-Two offering some pretty great stats:

  • NVIDIA Tegra 4 chipset (quad-core Cortex-A15 CPU ranging between 1.8 GHz and 2 GHz)
  • LTE radio
  • 4.5″ screen rumored to be a product of JDI (Japan Display Corporation) at 1080p
  • 2.5 GB worth of RAM.

The MI-One came out at just $310 US while The MI-Two came in a shade higher at $320. Not bad for devices using the Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 (dual core, 1.5 GHz) and the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 (quad core, 1.5 GHz) CPU’s respectively.

Xiaomi phones obviously ship running the MIUI version of Android but it doesn’t take much of a tinkerer to put a stock Android ROM on it. And let’s be honest, if you’re reading this you can most likely do that blindfolded.

So far this company has not sold outside of their home market but we can hope that will change in the near future. These devices typically sell for half of what the Samsung Galaxy S 3’s and the iPhone 5’s of the world sell for and as a fan of the free market I say bring it on. There’s no better way to bring down prices for everyone than to offer phones like this everywhere.
