Those of you expecting the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S IV at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January will have to keep waiting. CNET is reporting that the smart phone will not be at the event next month. This device is highly anticipated after the huge success the Galaxy S III was.
CES is an event put on by Consumer Electronics Association which highlights new and upcoming electronic products. Many top devices, like the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX, have been unveiled at CES in the past, so it was natural to assume the teaser video was about the Galaxy S IV with CES being on the horizon.
It was believed that the Galaxy S IV would be unveiled at CES in January after this teaser video was released on Sunday, December 9th:

The video suggests that consumers should get ready for January 8th – January 11th, which are the dates of CES 2013. However it appears, according to CNET, that the video is a teaser mainly for televisions, and Samsung has no major mobile news planned for CES. And yes, Samsung does sell more than just mobile devices. Samsung plans to show off their mobile lineup at their own separate media event after CES, which is what Samsung normally does. They did it this year with the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2. The Note 2 was introduced it at their own event days before IFA which was in Berlin this past August.
The Galaxy S IV is rumored to feature:
- 13-megapixel camera
- 4.99-inch, Unbreakable Screen
- Quad-core processor
If those specs prove to be true, you can see why this device is so anticipated.
Many believed Samsung was trying to throw us for a loop when they tweeted, “Please note that some media reported speculation that the Galaxy S3 subsequent models will be released in a simple rumor is not true. If not doing anything, why spread these rumors?” in September, but now it appears they were telling the truth.
It makes sense that Samsung wouldn’t want to announce the next phone in the Galaxy lineup so soon, as the Galaxy S III, that was released in May, is still a hot commodity and the Galaxy Note 2 was recently released.
Many companies are holding off on their mobile announcements until Mobile World Congress in February, but some, like Samsung, are choosing to follow the Apple model and hold their own events for the announcements of their flagship mobile devices.
The Samsung Galaxy S lineup was announced back in 2010. The lineup from Samsung has jumped into being on of the biggest and best selling mobile device lines in the world. The Galaxy S and SII lineup were renamed for each US carrier, which is normal for these carriers. But when Samsung brought out the Galaxy SIII this summer, they brought it to five of the major carriers all under the same name. The device is also available on MetroPCS now, making it the sixth carrier in the US to carry the device. So whether it’s at CES, Mobile World Congress or Samsung’s own event, we expect the Galaxy SIV to take our breath away.
