Samsung New Device Rumors; Project J, New Galaxy Note, 13.3 Tablet

First of all, there’s a sort of disclaimer that goes with these rumors, especially after the Nexus 4 fun, and when talking about Samsung, the Galaxy S III had a huge amount of rumors tied to it. So, what I will say is, to take this batch of rumors with a cup of salt and while it might become somewhat tiring to hear of all these rumors – we all love to get a glimpse of what’s coming.

Today, SamMobile is reporting on what they believe to be rumors out of Korea – given to them by an anonymous tipster – surrounding something called ‘Project J’. The new project is said to be an internal name for the next generation of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S line and despite having heard previous rumors of a quad-core Exynos (running on Cortex A15) and a 5.0″ full HD display, the tipster was unable to confirm or deny anything. At this moment, all we know is the internal project name; Project J.

As well the rumored ‘Project J’ is news that there could be a “basic” version of the Galaxy Note II coming next year. A phone with a larger screen but, without the S-Pen stylus. To me this seems a questionable rumor, why would Samsung want to dilute their successful Galaxy Note line? It’s no secret that Samsung are keen to push larger screens – as a real differentiator between them and the iPhone – but bringing the Note II down seems like it could be a mistake to me. If the company were to bring something like this to market, it’d likely be without Super AMOLED.

Perhaps the most exciting rumor of the bunch though, is that Samsung are – apparently – prepping a 13.3″ sized tablet, to compete with ASUS’ Transformer line, and bring a keyboard dock along for the ride. Unfortunately, the tipster couldn’t say what Operating System was running on the device. However, Samsung have already announced some plans surrounding Windows 8 with their ATIV range. I wouldn’t be surprised though if this were to become some kind of x86 packing Windows 8 machine.

All-in-all, it looks like SamMobile’s tipster doesn’t have all that much to say and some of these rumors seem a little off to me but, there is talk of Samsung pushing a rebranding this coming January at CES, which could bring with it radically different products as a result. I’m really not sure that Samsung will want to water the Note line down with a basic version but, the Droid DNA is a large device with no stylus and that seems to be doing just fine.
