School's In Session: XDA University Open For Business

The XDA Developers family of sites are an amazing resource. Whether it’s the blog or the forums, if you’re planning on rooting or modifying your device in any way, that’s probably where you go first looking for intel on your favorite ROM. Now they’ve added a new site to the list, XDA-University.

The University arm of XDA is a one stop shop for everything from n00bs who are looking to jump into the basic rooting/ROMing aspect of android, to seasoned Android veterans trying to get into the actual development of ROMs, kernels, apps, etc. The aim of the site is to introduce you to the XDA Developers world as a whole. Pretty much a tool to help you get the information you are seeking in a more easily accessible way.

The University will be a combination digital textbook and wiki which will be regularly updated by a smaller “crowd sourced” community for the public at large. Currently it’s only a website however there are plans for a downloadable PDF in the near future.

The introduction to the site gives readers a brief history of Android and Google as well as the history of XDA Developers itself. I’m always interested in stuff like that, even though I’ve read about the beginnings of the OS numerous times you always pick up something new.

I think this is genius if it works as described. I’m hoping that this site will help eliminate some of the clutter on the forums. Not to sound like a snob or anything but anyone who’s spent some time on any Android forum sees multiple threads on the same subject or a topic that differs slightly. People starting a new thread or asking the same question repeatedly because it wasn’t answered quick enough for their liking without even thinking about making a simple search. How many times have you seen a thread titled “So I did such and such…” or “How do I… “.  A moderator can only do so much and I think if anything a tool like XDA University will help them greatly.

So who’s ready to go back to school? I know I’ll be keeping an eye on this site in the future.
