Sony's Yuga Gets Shown Off in Preview from Russia

It seems as if the Internet is hoping for a massive come back from Sony in 2013, with the Yuga and Odin phones carrying some lofty rumored specs, it’s as if Sony are rising from the dead, born again. The reality of it all however, isn’t as glamorous as this, as the Yuga has been shown off by the Russian website Mobile-Review. What they found as they spent some time with the phone was that, while the device is certainly stunning, it’s nothing compared to the lofty specs that we were first hearing.

Here’s what the Yuga should be packing when we see it next month at CES:

  • 5-inch 1080p Full HD LCD Display
  • 1.5 Ghz Quad-Core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16GB of Storage with microSD expansion
  • Glass-clad chassis

So, that’s all we have to go on at the moment and while it might be a lot, it does sound like an impressive phone indeed. If anything though, it’s only on par with the Droid DNA in this sort of configuration – it wouldn’t surprise us if Sony were to up the clock speed to 1.7 Ghz and maybe throw something else in the mix in order to stand out from the crowd of 1080p devices sure to flood the market next year. Why do I say CES? Well, traditionally Sony has used CES as a platform to launch of their more higher-end devices – last year we saw the Xperia S and ION announced at CES. For Sony, MWC is the event where they announce other phones in their line-up and maybe some release dates.

The Russian website has been kind enough to take a number of photos of the device and I have to say, I’m looking forward to seeing just what this device is going to pack inside that attractive frame. Ever since Sony bought Ericsson out of their joint venture I’ve been intrigued by their phone designs and, if it weren’t for the Snapdragon S3 processor in the Xperia S, I’d be using that right now instead of the One X I currently have.

Could a Sony phone be my next smartphone? Maybe, just maybe – what about you?
