Well it’s time yet again to throw two great tablets into a Tablet War. This time we’ve got the Google Nexus 10 (manufactured by Samsung) going up against the Sony Xperia Tablet S. The Nexus 10 is running on a dual-core Exynos processor and the Xperia Tablet S is running on the popular and powerful quad-core Tegra 3 processor. Let’s get this battle started with some specs.
Specifications
Google Nexus 10
The Nexus 10 is Google’s new flagship, high-end tablet that launched with Android 4.2 in November of 2012. Samsung manufactured the Nexus 10, and gave it one of the best screens in the industry. The Nexus 10 has an amazing 10.055-inch display along with side speakers on either side of the display and a 1.9MP front-facing camera above the screen. On the back, you’ve got a plastic backing with a huge ‘Nexus’ logo in the middle. And honestly it looks really nice. There is also a 5MP rear-facing camera where you can take advantage of Photo Sphere, which is a new feature in Android 4.2.
Pros:
- Android 4.2; Photo Sphere, Enhanced notifications, more project butter, multi-users, and much more
- Display; the Nexus 10 has a 2560×1600 resolution on it’s 10.055″ display. The best in the industry right now at almost 300 PPI
- Battery; featuring a 9000mAh battery, which should get you through the entire day
Cons:
- Display; despite the awesome 2560×1600 display, many apps cannot handle that resolution.
- No expandable storage
- No cellular connectivity, you can’t through a SIM card in the Nexus 10 for HSPA+, 3G or LTE connectivity
Sony Xperia Tablet S
The Sony Xperia Tablet S is a great piece of hardware. Which makes it even more puzzling as to why Sony does so poorly with sales in the US. The Xperia Tablet S has quite a few great accessories that help you do just about anything with the device. Despite it running a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, it’s still not as fast as the Nexus 10 which is dual-core. The Xperia Tablet S has a huge bezel on all sides of the the display, and it has a poor 1MP front-facing camera. Then around to the back you’ve got the 8MP rear-facing camera which is great for taking pictures.
Pros:
- Variety of sizes; comes in 16, 32 and 64GB versions. And can have another 32GB added via Micro SD card
- Large battery; although its a 6000mAh battery and two thirds the size for the Nexus 10 battery, it should keep up with the Nexus 10 due to the difference in screen sizes.
Cons:
- Android 4.0.3; the Xperia Tablet S is very far behind in updates
- No cellular connectivity; so no 3G, HSPA+ or LTE
Winner…
Like you even had to ask, it’s the Nexus 10. For many reasons including the screen, software version, and it being a Nexus. Which means it’ll get updates first, before any other tablet. Except the Nexus 7. Both tablets are Wi-Fi only, so connectivity isn’t much of a factor here. Except the fact that the Xperia Tablet S doesn’t have NFC, DLNA, or Wi-Fi Direct. Both of these tablets are great choices, so the choice is up to you.
