Who’s ready for a mid-range phone with Android 4.1, before some high-end devices get Jelly Bean? Well today, Acer officially unveiled the Acer Liquid E1, which is a mid-range phone running Android 4.1.1 – Jelly Bean. And by the looks of the images of the device, it’s almost completely stock Android. Here’s the complete spec list for the Liquid E1:
- 4.5-inch qHD 960×540 resolution display
- 1GHz dual-core processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 4GB internal storage
- 5MP rear-facing camera; 0.3MP front-facing camera
- 1760mAh battery
- Dimensions: 132 x 68.5 x 9.9 mm
- Weight: 130g
- Network: HSPA – 900/2100MHz, GSM/EDGE – 850/900/1800/1900MHz
The back cover, and battery are indeed removable, and the Liquid E1 also includes a FM receiver, microSD card slot and the usual sensors you’ll find on a smartphone these days. Based on the press images, the Acer Liquid E1 is a pretty nice looking device. Especially the gray version with the red accents, almost looks like something Verizon would have on their store shelves, but at least this variant won’t be on Verizon, or probably any US carrier since it doesn’t have CDMA or LTE connectivity.
And as usual, Acer left out pricing, availability and where this device will end up. But my guess would be that it’s not coming to the US, since Acer doesn’t have any presence in the smartphone business in the US, and barely a presence in the tablet area. I would expect this device to find its way to Asia, the Middle East and probably Europe. But it’d be nice to have it over here in North America, but knowing our carriers, that won’t happen. It’s a great looking device, although I’d like the resolution to be a bit higher, but for someone looking for a slightly smaller display this might be your only choice nowadays. Especially with manufacturers competing on screen size now.
