Back at CES earlier this month in Las Vegas, Huawei was showing off their MediaPad 10 Link tablet, which has just taken a visit to the FCC. Which means this Huawei tablet is one step closer to release. But Huawei still has not announced release dates or pricing, so we’ll still have to wait on that. Based on the FCC filing, this MediaPad 10 Link is going to be the lower-end version of the Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD.
The specs for this MediaPad 10 Link include:
- 10.1-inch 1280×800 IPS display
- 1GB of RAM
- Huawei’s K3V2 processor which is Cortex A9
- 8/16/32GB configurations
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS all on board
- 9.9mm thin or thick
But aside from these low-end specs, there is something else that might turn potential buyers away from this tablet, and that is that its running Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich. Yes the version of Android that came out about 14 months ago, and is two major versions behind. But assuming the price is fair, this could still be a good 10-inch budget tablets. Since right now there really aren’t any good budget tablets in the 10-inch range. There is the Nexus 10, but good luck finding one.
So this basically looks to be another Huawei tablet that is a low-end device and people probably won’t be lining up to purchase one, nor will they be super excited about it. We still have not had an official announcement for the device, so I’d expect Huawei to say something about it during Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona. But while we are waiting for another four weeks, feel free to check out the FCC filing, which did include the full user manual, for anyone that still reads those things.
Anyone excited or even tempted to pick up the Huawei MediaPad 10 Link? I’d say, for it to be successful it’ll need to be under $250. If it’s over $300, most people will just spend the extra $100 for the Nexus 10.
