Au Infobar A02, made by HTC, Launches in Japan

Naoto Fukasawa and HTC have developed the next generation of the au Infobar for KDDI. It brings the series up to date with specs, and it has some pretty good looking specs:

  • 4.7-inch 720p display
  • Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz quad-core APQ8064
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 2100mAh battery
  • 16GB internal storage, expandable via microSD card slot
  • Android 4.1
  • LTE, CDMA, and WCDMA radios
  • 8MP rear-facing camera; 2.1MP front-facing camera

It also appears that the camera in the au Infobar A02 uses HTC’s Imagesense chip for speedy burst shots. You’ll also find Beats Audio built-in. And typically with Japanese phones, it comes with NFC, 1seg TV tuner, and infrared. The au Infobar A02 is just 9.7mm thick and weighs 147g. It’s also waterproof (IPX5 and IPX7) and dustproof (IPX5). Some of you might already be fans of the iconic nishikigoi (which means “brocaded carp”) color scheme which is pictured above and below in the gallery. As you can see in these images, the device is pretty colorful, something that you wouldn’t expect from HTC. But they did “co-develop” the device, so the design may not have been on them. The fluid animations and uniqueness of the “iida UI” 2.0 (which means innovation, imagination, design and art) is also quite interesting.

In the video clips below, you can see the homescreen shares quite a few similarities with Windows Phone 8. What we mean, is the way items snap to grid, resize even though the former is enhanced byplenty of bouncy animations and more colors that are not needed.

Currently the A02 is expected to hit the Japanese market in mid-February in both blue, red and gray. The au Infobar A02 is a nice looking device, but not something I’d pick up. But it is running Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean which is great to see. Any of our Japanese readers planning on grabbing this device next month? Let us know in the comments below.
