The Nexus 7 has been a big success for Google, not only because of its pricing but because it helped to usher in a new wave of content service for Google. Before the Nexus 7 arrived it wasn’t exactly thought of natural to buy a book, or music through the Play Store. Now, it’s as normal as it would be to buy content from iTunes or the Amazon Kindle store. The Nexus 7 is perhaps still the best value tablet on the market right now and if you haven’t gotten round to buying one – don’t worry, I haven’t either – then now is perhaps a good time to get one on Ma Bell’s network.
Right now, if you head on over to the Play Store, to get your hands on a Nexus 7 you can get a $100 bill credit if you buy the 3G model on AT&T. Of course, there are always caveats in life and this time around, you’ve got to pony up for two-years to get your hands on the $100 credit. It’s also worth noting that this is very much a credit and not a subsidy against the Nexus 7’s cost, like other deals AT&T have ran in the past.
The Nexus 7 is still a good tablet and even though the Tegra 3 inside it will be soon superseded by Nvidia’s Tegra 4 processor, it’s got plenty life left in it. With a good screen resolution of 1280 x 800 it’s a good tablet to get some reading done while you’re on the go. For a lot of people, there’s no point in having such a portable device without being able to actually, you know, take it anywhere. With 3G you’ll at least be able to get online on the go and while there’s no LTE, 3G speeds will be more than enough to browse the web and check your e-mails.
It seems like a good deal but, it only really applies to those that haven’t already bought a Nexus 7 and to those that are happy with Ma Bell’s coverage in their area. If you know that you’re not going to get as much – or as fast – 3G as you’d like then save your money and get the Wi-Fi only model.
