EFun took some time out of their busy schedule, which probably consists of readying for CES 2013, to send out a press release unveiling a new product for the masses.
The product in question is the Nextbook 7GP, a seven-inch Jelly Bean tablet of modest proportions and hardware. If the picture above is to be believed, then the design is remarkably slick. Sure, anyone can see that it’s a budget tablet, but I prefer the lack of branding on the front of any gadget. Of course, the image could very well represent a prototype or early model, which means that branding can certainly still appear. Although design alone, isn’t what defines a budget tablet, especially in this market.
To be more specific, the hardware included in the Nextbook 7GP is as follows:
- 1.5GHz dual-core processor
- 1GB DDR3 RAM
- 8GB of internal storage
- MicroSD expansion slot (support for up to 32GB)
- Integrated Wi-Fi
- 1024×600 maximum supported resolution
- Full 1080p HD HDMI output
- 2.0 USB port
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
- Uninhibited access to the Google Play store
EFun has chosen to bundle the Nextbook with a large selection of preloaded software, including the Barnes and Noble Nook Store. In addition, owners will also have exclusive access to the CloudLink’s “Productivity Toolbox,” which in itself includes 5GB of free cloud storage, among several other productivity features.
EFun plans to take on Google directly, in the budget tablet market. The Nextbook will have a measly price tag of $130. When you consider the internals, it’s certainly not a hefty price at all. Although, the Nexus 7 is certainly a better tablet, and it sells for $199, a little over $60 more. Nevertheless, we will see how EFun’s latest tablet fares when it drops in February.
If you would like to see all the juicy details, or at least what EFun is saying, check out the press release below. We’re sure to get more information on this tablet sometime next week during CES 2013. Hopefully we will also get to see some new screenshots, right along with a closer look at the device itself also.
Gone are the days where budget tablets are seemingly incapable. Thanks to Google’s own tablet, we’re seeing an alarmingly vast amount of manufacturers starting to provide relatively powerful budget tablets.
