Facebook Reveals Mobile User Numbers, Android Growing Faster than iOS

Android world domination continues. With Android having the majority of the market share, it shouldn’t surprise you that Facebook’s Android numbers are growing at a faster pace than iOS. Comparing the two’s numbers over the past year you can tell they both had pretty good years for Facebook. And while Android’s Facebook app is well rather lacking, it still has many more users than iOS, and Zuckerberg needs to take that into account and deliver a better Facebook app to the Play Store.

In September of 2011, Facebook for Android had about 66 million monthly active users, while Facebook for iPhone had about 91 million. Now moving out to November 2012, Facebook for Android grew to 192.8 million monthly active users while Facebook for iPhone jumped to 147.2 million monthly active users. In that short time frame, Android tripled their user base and then some, while iOS couldn’t even double their user base. The data also shows that Facebook now has a total of 604 million mobile users by the end of Q3 2012.

Now here’s where it gets interesting. There are still more iOS users than Android users on Facebook mobile. When you expand the data to take into account iPad users, that adds about 48 million monthly active users, which brings the total to 195.2 million, which is just a hair more than Android has on Facebook. This data also does not take into account those with iOS 6 and using the new Facebook integration in the newest version of iOS. And once that data is included, iOS could very well be higher than Android. But that is probably mostly due to the terrible Facebook app on Android, and the fact that most Android users are on Google+ and have given up on Facebook.

This is great news for Facebook, even if they don’t really care about their Android app. Android is definitely helping Facebook grow their platform faster than ever before. And when we look at this data in about another year, I’m sure Android will triple their monthly active users on Facebook once again. Does anyone out there still actually use Facebook?
