So, the rumor mill is finally running at full capacity it would seem, we’ve heard a lot swirling around the S IV and while we know it’s not coming to MWC – shocker – an Asian news report might suggest that the device is to be unveiled in March. Asia Economy are reporting that the new handset will be unveiled at a special “Mobile Unpacked” event in the good ol’ US of A in March. Now, before you all start shouting that the S III was announced in May and this will get announced at the same time, the original Galaxy S was announced March 2010 at CTIA and the S II at MWC in February 2011. So perhaps, this is the most accurate rumor surrounding the phone yet?
The Galaxy S IV is said to be come packing Samsung’s new Exynos 5 Octa processor, which packs eight-cores and is said to be kinder on battery life than any other CPU out there. Not only that but, it’s all but confirmed that a 4.99″ Full HD AMOLED display will be coming along for the ride as well, we’d expect Samsung to have done something to the underlying AMOLED technology here as well, after all it’s their chance to really stand out from the rest of the 1080p crowd. a 13 MP camera and 2GB of RAM are also rumored to be featured too.
If Samsung can get the Exynos 5 Octa and a Full HD Display into the S IV then it would certainly make quite an upgrade over the Galaxy S III and it’ll be Samsung’s turn to show the big manufacturers like HTC, Sony et al that they can make mobile displays better than anyone. Of course, AMOLED is not for everyone and I, myself aren’t too keen on it, but the OLED tech makes for some very vivid screens and at 1080p I don’t think any of us would have a problem watching a movie on a phone like that.
Traditionally around March has been the time that Apple announce and/or release a new iPad model but, with the iPad 4 and iPad Mini being released last fall I doubt that we’re going to see much from Apple until the early summer this year. Which could go against Samsung’s plans to hold an event in the U.S. around that time, nevertheless March seems to be the month to watch and it’d make sense for Samsung to bring the event up from May last year after all HTC and Sony already have great phones either on shelves or on their way – the Sony Xperia Z launches in March.
