Galaxy X Cover Sequel…Breaks Cover; Dust and Water Resistance on a Budget

If there’s one thing you can always rely on Samsung to do, it’s releasing numerous different handsets spanning screen sizes and use cases. Right the way down from the Galaxy S and Galaxy note flagships to the budget-minded devices, Samsung do it all. In the case of the Galaxy X Cover Samsung have a device that is ready and willing to take a beating and deal with whatever you throw at it. With dust and water resistance at a friendly cost, the Galaxy X Cover was  a good device for those that lived on the more adventurous side of things.

Now there are rumors that Samsung are looking to bring a new and improve version of the Galaxy X Cover, with the inspiringly named, Galaxy X Cover 2. Sammobile are reporting “confirmed” specs for an upcoming sequel to the rugged handset and so far, they look pretty middling. Take a look for yourself below:

  • 4″ TFT 480—800 WVGA
  • 1700 mAh
  • EDGE (850/900/1800/1900) HSPA+21.1Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps (850/900/1900/2100)
  • 5 Megapixel rear-facing camera with a front-facing 0.3 megapixel camera
  • 4GB internal storage with room for a microSD card (up to 32GB)
  • BT 4.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, A-GPS
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

So,this doesn’t seem like an awe-inspiring device, probably because it really isn’t and in fact, it’s a pretty poor device. However, there is no word yet on which processor is going to be used which is pretty strange in and of itself. Perhaps Samsung don’t know what processor they are going to be using in their new devices. Having said that this is a rumor bought to us by Sammobile so I really wouldn’t take any of this as gospel, y any means. A healthy dose of salt is needed for this one.

Just who would buy such a device is probably on your mind, but those that spend a lot of time outdoors or just like to really hammer their devices will be intrigued by such a device as it’s designed to take quite a bit of a beating. You can get this thing covered in sand, dust or mud and it will be fine after it all. You could say that it’s got the resistance of the Xperia Z and it’s more than likely going to cost around half the price as the Z.
