It’s not everyday that we get to report on something like this, after all the rumor mill is in its busy season and there seems to be no end to the amount of rumors flooding the web. When we think of the iPhone now, we often bring Siri into the mix, just like a lot of people would think of Google Now when it comes newer versions of Android. Unfortunately, it’s no secret that Siri is the more popular of the two technologies but that doesn’t mean that Google Now isn’t taking off and it’s always getting better and better.
An article at HuffPo has outlined how Siri could have been the darling of Verizon’s Droid line and leave the iPhone out in the cold. Those that founded the software reportedly signed a deal with Verizon in late 2009 to bring the software to Verizon’s Android device but, the deal fell through after the company were bought out by Apple. The rest, as we all know, is history. The interesting part here is that we normally think of Google buying out companies but here, Apple had done the same to secure the coveted Siri.
Apple have long had an interest in assistant computing and in the eighties they ran ads on the future of computing with assistant computing. Siri was designed to do so much more than it can currently do right now but of course, Apple have their firm grip over the software. It’s clear that this is the future of mobile technology, as voice recognition gets better and better and faster internet, through LTE, becomes more prevalent assistants are going to be how we get our answers from the web. Google Now already hooks into their Knowledge Graph to display results to a lot of questions. Not only that but Google Now ties into your whole life style online and can help with bookings, sports scores and more. But, I really don’t need to tell you guys what Google Now is capable?
The long and short of it all is that Siri could well have been Verizon’s crowning feature long before the iPhone was available on the carrier and it paints an interesting alternate future. The source link is below and if you have a little time give it a read.
