Here’s a new rumor for you. LG is rumored to be planning a full HD phone for Q1, which ends in March. This LG phone has the codename GK and will feature a 5.5-inch full HD display along with a quad-core processor. Now based on those specs, this is a device you’ll want to look out for. We may see it announced before Mobile World Congress, especially if LG wants it released in Q1. Since Mobile World Congress is the last week of February, that’ll only give LG a month to get the device out to meet their goal of launching in Q1.
At CES last week, LG did show off a 5.5-inch full HD display, which is said to be on this new LG device coming in Q1. According to Yonhap News, a South Korean news agency, LG’s goal with the device’s first quarter launch is to grab a bigger share in the market by releasing before the top dogs like Samsung and Apple with their Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5S/6. Which also looks to be HTC’s strategy for their M7 launch as well. So it looks like in Q1 and part of Q2 the fight will be between HTC and LG. And with Samsung being so popular now, and so many rumors of the Galaxy S4 and Note 3. Both HTC and LG need to get their devices out early, or they will just sit on the shelves collecting dust. Which is not what either manufacturer wants.
There was also a rumor that the Optimus G2 would be coming at CES, which would be the successor to the Optimus G which was released in late 2012. Of course, as we know now, that didn’t happen. According to Yonhap, LG is looking to release the Optimus G2 in fall of 2013. Which isn’t a huge surprise to the most of us.
So this new LG device, that’s codenamed GK, looks to be a pretty good competitor to HTC, Samsung, Motorola, and the others. Hopefully we’ll see it at Mobile World Congress or earlier and it’ll be released quickly after the announcement. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date on news and rumors of this GK device from LG.
