These days, it seems that everyone is getting in on the budget tablet game, thanks to the success the Nexus 7 has enjoyed. It’s finally gotten to the point that budget no longer means “cheap” and a lot of these tablets are more than good enough for most people out there. There’s one problem with a lot of them though, and that their price does not often give the best build in the world. Even the Nexus 7 suffered a number of quality issues when it first launched. Between the Kindle Fire, the Nexus 7 and a flood of other budget tablets, it’s now easier than ever to pick a tablet up.
MSI are now ready to get into this budget game with their new Enjoy 71 Tablet, a 7-inch tablet that has all the run-of-the-mill specs you’ve come to expect these days but, one thing should set the Enjoy 71 apart from the rest, its build. MSI’s tablet features a metal casing and finish that should help it survive the odd knock better than the plastic casing found on everything else.
Specs wise, MSI’s budget tab comes featuring the following:
- 1024 x 600 IPS Display
- 1.5 GHz dual-core Amlogic 8726-MX – Cortex A9 based
- 1GB of RAM
- Mali 400 GPU
- 2 MP rear-facing camera with 0.3 MP front-facing
- 8GB of internal storage, with support of up to 32GB microSD cards
- Micro USB and mini HDMI round out connectivity
So, you can see that MSI have cut some corners when it comes to cost, the resolution of the front-facing camera is particularly poor but it does have support for a few things even the Nexus 7 doesn’t. There’s mini HDMI out and support for microSD cards which should make a lot of people pretty happy. Whether or not the tablet makes it to the States is unknown but it sure would be nice to see another budget tablet round out the competition. Pricing works out at around $170 but that’s just a conversion so the price would hopefully be less if it launch in the States.
The real question here is whether $199 for the Nexus 7 is cheap enough? Is there a market for these tablets priced around $150? A lot of manufacturers are betting that there is, we guess only time – and sales – will tell.
