New ZTE Leak Shows a P945 5.7-inch Phablet

Lately we’ve seen many devices rumored and leaked that will be in the phablet space including the Huawei Ascend Mate which is 6.1 inches. Samsung is the main reason why we are seeing so many devices with 5+ inch displays. It all started with the original Galaxy Note launched in 2011, which was 5.3 inches, and the Galaxy Note 2 in 2012 which is 5.5-inches.

So far this new ZTE device is only known as the P945 and it’s a 5.7-inch device which will be one of the first devices to be between the 5.6-6 inch range. With the Galaxy Note 2 being 5.5 and the Huawei Ascend Mate being 6.1 inches. But it doesn’t sound like the P945 will be a 1080p phone, instead a 720p display will be on the P945 along with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor that will be capable of anything you through at it, it won’t wow the benchmark scores in favor of ZTE. The other rumored specs include an 8MP rear-facing camera, 3000mAh battery, and Android 4.0, but that might be bumped to Jelly Bean by announcement time.

So far this leak is getting ready to be launched in China only. And at this time there’s no other news about it being released in other markets. But like we’ve said before, if ZTE wants to succeed, they’ll need to bring this device to other markets. Especially if the price is right, it could sell better or as well as the Galaxy Note 2.

It’s sounding like this device is going to be a “budget” phablet. With the 720p display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor. So if ZTE does price it around $400 it could do well for those that want a large device without the high price tag. Of course you’d have to compromise some specs, but that doesn’t mean the device isn’t capable of handling everything you throw at it. It should still be a great device.

Who’s hoping this ZTE P945 will hit the US or even Europe? We might get a glimpse of this at CES, but I’m willing to bet it’ll be at Mobile World Congress instead. So we’ll be looking for that in Barcelona next month.
