Over the years, Samsung’s custom skin has really added some useful features. To the fact that I prefer Touchwiz ROMs over AOSP-based ones on my Galaxy S3. My favorite feature on the Galaxy S3 is Smart Stay. That feature uses your front-facing camera to see if you’re still looking at the screen. And if you are it’ll keep the screen on, and if you aren’t it’ll turn it off. At first most people thought this was a gimmick, but it actually works quite well.
Now according to new trademarks filed, it looks like Samsung is working on a few new features called “Eye Pause” and “Eye Scroll”. Currently there is no confirmation of what these features will do, but we are expecting Eye Pause to pause a video when you look away from the screen. This feature would be pretty easy to implement, since almost all the technology is already there with Smart Stay. Now Eye Scroll is a little bit more difficult to interpret but I’d assume it would use your front-facing camera to see where you are looking on the phone and scroll when needed. Which would be an awesome feature for reading books, or even checking Twitter, Google+, or your favorite News/RSS reader like Currents, Press or Flipboard.
SamMobile is reporting that we do see a new version of Touchwiz every year with the next Galaxy S device. In 2012, Samsung announced the Galaxy S3 and Smart Stay (along with a handful of other tweaks and features). So it wouldn’t be to far-fetched to assume that these new features will be part of the Galaxy S4. Or worst case scenario, it’ll be part of the Galaxy Note 3 when that launches around the Fall of this year. Either way these trademarks sound like some really cool features.
Somehow Samsung always amazes us with their next Generation Galaxy S device. The Galaxy S3 amazed us in so many ways. The biggest way was probably how quickly it came to the US and the fact that it was released within weeks on five of the major US carriers, with the same name and same specs. So what does Samsung have up its sleeve this year? Possible Eye Scroll, and Eye Pause are two of those tricks. What do you think about these new features? Sound cool enough?
