Did you think there was a shortage of 5-inch, 1080p phones out there? Well NTT DoCoMo, a Japanese carrier, has just shown off the new Panasonic Eluga X. The Eluga X is a natural 1080p device and it looks pretty great. Here’s the full spec list:
- 5-inch, 1080p display
- 1.5GHz quad-core processor
- 2GB of RAM
- 32GB internal storage
- 2320mAh battery
- Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean
Panasonic has only been in the smartphone industry for almost a year, last year they showed off the Eluga, and so far they don’t have any plans of leaving Europe and Japan and heading for other markets. NTT DoCoMo also showed off a whole bunch of other 5-inch devices including the LG Optimus G Pro, Xperia Z, ARROWS X, Ascend D2, and the MEDIAS W. All of which are launching and will be available by mid-April.
The Panasonic Eluga X will be available from NTT DoCoMo starting January 30, that’s next week. I’d expect to see this device, and more from Panasonic at Mobile World Congress in late-February. Along with these other devices that NTT DoCoMo introduced over the past few days. The Eluga X seems to be right on par with every other 5-inch device we’ve seen hit the market in the past few months. 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 2000mAh or larger battery and Android 4.1. Which manufacturer is going to be the one to take these specs a step further and differentiate themselves from the competition? Right now it could be anyone, but based on the rumors of the next flagship Galaxy S device we reported on earlier today, I’d expect Samsung to take the specs up a notch in the Altius.
Any of our Japanese readers want to pick up the Panasonic Eluga X? Let us know in the comments what you think of this device.
