It seems that 2013 is shaping up to be the year of the Full HD smartphone even more than we first thought. Everyone is getting in on the game. Now, it looks like it’s Pantech’s turn to get in on the game and they’re following the rest of the pack with this one. Not only with the resolution but also because it’s going to be a massive phone. The Pantech Vega No. 6, as it’s known as right now, is going to be a device packing a 5.9″ Display, which puts it beyond Galaxy Note II territory, which is at 5.5″.
So, what will this new device from Pantech offer besides a pretty great screen resolution? It looks like the No. 6 will come packing a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro and 2GB of RAM, LTE onboard and a 13 MP camera. There’s no word on battery size or storage just yet, but something pretty big would be nice as the Droid DNA has a small battery around the 2,000 mAh mark and as power-efficient as the S4 Pro is, more battery equals better battery life.
Pantech are perhaps doing something a little different, in that the Vega No. 6 is currently the largest Full HD smartphone either on the market or, coming to the market. At least that we know of anyway, there are still rumors doing the rounds that Samsung’s Galaxy Note III is going to come packing a Full HD display of 6.3″ in size, which is something I don’t think is an awfully good idea myself.
Unfortunately, there’s no word on whether or not this will make it out of South Korea, like a lot of other Pantech phones. If it did though, expect to see it on AT&T as the manufacturer has trouble sending their better phones to other carriers. Pricing is going to be important for the manufacturer if the device did make it to the States, with the Pantech Discover they’ve shown that they can deliver a decent, 720p packing smartphone at a stunning price. Perhaps they could do the same at 1080p?
If one’s thing certain though, it’s that 2013 is definitely going to be the year of the 1080p smartphone and it’s not going to be a question of who has the first one – that already goes to the Droid DNA – but who can bring the best device to the market.
