RCA has officially unveiled a new Android tablet, that will also be on display CES next week. The device is the RCA Mobile TV Tablet. And common sense tells us that the device is indeed TV related. The tablet will be running on a dual-tuner featuring standard over-the-air tuner and Dyle mobile TV tuner.
You’ll probably recognize the Dyle name. When Metro PCS released the Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G it had support for mobile TV through Dyle back in August of 2012. This new tablet from RCA will also give users access to 130 mobile television stations from across the country. The TCA Mobile TV Tablet will also have some nice looking specs, here’s the full spec list:
- 8-inch IPS display with a 1024×768 resolution
- 1GHz Cortex A5 processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 8GB internal storage; Expandable via micro SD card slot
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, HDMI, microUSB, USB, GPS
- Weighs 1.4lbs
This tablet also has a pair of speakers, along with a front-facing and rear-facing camera. It will also have access to the Google Play Store. And as far as the battery goes, it should be good for about 4 hours of mobile TV or 10 hours of web browsing. The tablet will also have some goodies including real-time signal strength display, on-screen program information display and digital closed captioning settings in addition to language settings. Currently Dyle has service in 35 markets. The RCA Mobile TV Tablet should be available this Spring with a $299 price tag. Not a bad price, but it’ll be interesting to see how well this works and if there’s any lag involved with it at all.
It’s a pretty interesting tablet, and would probably be great for long road trips, but I’m guessing it’ll need a data connection. Hopefully RCA will bring out a 3G/HSPA+/LTE version or we’ll have to have a hotspot to use it on road trips.
