The Samsung Galaxy S2, the top selling Samsung device of 2011. Sure it’s getting close to being two years old, but it’s still a great device. While most people who bought this device when it came out is probably close to ending their 2 year contract. But that’s not stopping Samsung from bringing Jelly Bean to it. They’ve already brought Android 4.1 to the Galaxy S3, and the Galaxy Note 2 launched with Android 4.1. The last we heard on the official Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S2 is that it’s coming sometime in Q1. So it could be launching any day now.
Samsung Korea has said that the update will only be available via Kies. Which really sucks, and anyone that has used Kies knows what I mean. Samsung Korea is also saying it’ll take about an hour to install, mostly because it will need to repartition the entire memory system. Which will reduce the internal storage by 1GB. Some of the changes include:
- Improved home screens
- better scrolling performance thanks to Project Butter
- improved usability for some apps
- Easy mode
- Block mode
- improved camera functions
- Smart Stay
- Pop-up Play
- And much more
It’s actually a pretty big update. But more than likely, those of you in the US with a Galaxy S2 won’t see the update for a few more months. We all know how our carriers are with pushing out updates. The AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint Galaxy S2’s probably won’t see Jelly Bean until April or so. Hopefully I’m wrong, but based on previous updates for other devices, that’s about how long it’ll take. We should start seeing this update pushing to the International version of the Galaxy S2 very soon. Of course when it does start pushing, we’ll let everyone know.
Who’s still rocking the Galaxy S2? How many of you have flashed a custom ROM? Let us know in the comments below.
