SF Launcher Hits the Play Store as Alpha, Great Alternative to Nova or Apex?

How many of you run custom launchers on your device? The first one I ran was Launcher Pro way back in the Eclair days on my Motorola Droid. But since Android 4.0 came along I haven’t really used any third-party launchers on my devices until recently, I started using Nova launcher. Now, we’ve got yet another launcher we can throw on our devices. This week, SF Launcher hit alpha on the Google Play Store, and of course with Alphas there’s bound to be a few bugs, or lots of bugs.

The developer, Alamo Apps, has been working on this launcher for quite some time and is also planning on adding quite a bit more features to this launcher. It’s a pretty neat launcher, at first glance, it might remind you a lot of Google Now. The top section of the launcher, which is the header with the time, date and a graphic of a San Francisco skyline form Google Now. And similarly to Google Now the image changes based on the time of day. You can also configure at what times the images change from header settings. And in a recent update, you can change the image to be London, San Francisco or the generic Google Now background.

Below the header, you’ve got the widgets section. You can tap on the card labeled “Add…” to add a new widget card. You can also swipe in this area to switch between widget cards. Just like on any other launcher, if you long press on the widget an option to remove the widget will pop up. At the bottom, you’ve got your favorites section. At first this section will be empty, but you can add your favorites by long-pressing on apps in the all apps list.

It’s a pretty nice looking launcher, I can’t wait to see more skyline’s added to the launcher and see what other features the development team has planned. It’s definitely one I’ll be trying out. What about you? Are you intrigued by SF Launcher? Let us know in the comments below.
