LG’s CES press conference just finished, and it looks like their “Touch the Smart Life” motto was certainly appropriate. Besides revealing some new vacuum, refrigerator and washing machine models, all of which are equipped with some form of new Smart technology, LG also unveiled its new line of Google TV sets.
The new LG Google TV sets will be comprised of two different series, each with varying sizes, of course. The two LG series include the GA6400 models and the GA7900 models. The premiere GA7900 models will include a “sleeker appearance,” as well as, LG’s unique Cinema Screen technology.

LG originally released information about the new line of Google TVs through a press release on December 26th, 2012. Oddly enough, during the conference, they didn’t reveal anything we didn’t already knew about the series from the press release. Regardless, it doesn’t hurt to repeat everything for the good of the people (wink, wink).
One of the notable features of LG’s new Google TV series is the Magic QWERTY Remote. Like most other Smart TVs, it’s going to feature added functions which compliment the internet capabilities of the TV. Where LG’s remote differs from those of other brands, is with the exclusive gesture support. The Magic QWERTY Remote will allow consumers to change TV channels by simply writing numbers in the air.
According to Skott Ahn, the CTO for LG Electronics, the new LG Google TVs will even allow consumers to make gestures using a single finger. He said that gestures, which require the use of a whole arm, are ‘tiring’. Of course, that means you’ll have to be careful when giving each other the finger in front of your LG TV, unless your goal is to be a stinker and change the channel.
The LG Google TVs will include additional features, most of which vastly enhance the user interface. The first is a unique Home Dashboard which allows viewers to access media and content directly, including apps, similar to the Xbox Dashboard.
The next user interface feature to be included is a new function called My Interest Cards. Cards mainly offer shortcuts and folders for organizing trending content. They can be easily customized to a viewers personal tastes, allowing you instant access to the trending content that is most relevant to you.
Last, but certainly not least, the LG Google TVs will be equipped with SmartShare technology. This will essentially allow viewers to stream personal media and content to the TV set using WiDi, Miracast and even NFC functionality. Have a bunch of baby pictures that you’d love to show off at the family gathering? No problem. Just sync your phone up with the LG TV and you’re good to go. It’s relevant to note that this feature is fairly common in a lot of other Smart TVs too, so it’s certainly not exclusive to LGs models.
Unfortunately, no information was available about the individual prices and release dates of LG’s latest Google TVs. Like most everything else being announced at CES this year, we’ll have to be patient for a little while longer. Of course, Android Headlines will clue you in as soon as we know more!
