Quick question, in the US, what carriers can you get truly unlimited data with? Currently it’s just Sprint and T-Mobile. T-Mobile brought back their truly unlimited data plan back in September. Starting next Wednesday the Monthly4G plans are changing. T-Mobile is replacing the current $70 plan which features unlimited minutes and data with 5GB of 4G speeds and throttled to EDGE speeds afterwards. The new plan will be unlimited minutes, texts, and data. Pretty good change if you ask me.
With the recent merger of MetroPCS which is set to finish out later this year, T-Mobile’s prepaid plans are probably going to get even juicer in the next few months. But where else can you get unlimited everything for $70 per month and not be tied to a 2-year contract? Just wait until T-Mobile starts launching their LTE network later this year, then the unlimited data is going to look very enticing to many people.
When the Nexus 4 came out, I switched from Sprint to T-Mobile and got their Value plan. Which includes 500 minutes, unlimited texts, and unlimited data for $59.99/month. It’s a great deal and I really love it. But their Value plan is a 2-year contract. Sure their ETF is cheaper than the rest of the carriers, but it’s still a 2-year contract. Now for those that don’t want a contract, you’ve got a choice for unlimited data. I’d still like to see something on the prepaid side that will give you 100 minutes and unlimited texts to go with the unlimited data plans. Crossing my fingers that’ll come later this year, since I don’t use a whole lot of minutes on my plan.
So who’s jumping to the new $70 plan when it becomes available next Wednesday? For me it would be an increase in my monthly bill, so I won’t be switching yet. But might in the future. Let us know in the comments if you’re interested in this new plan.
