Android 4.2.2 Coming to the Sony Xperia Z in March?

Now here’s a leak that will make potential buyers of the Xperia Z very happy. There’s a leaked screenshot of the Xperia Z running Android 4.2.2, which the Xperia Blog have gotten their hands on too. The Xperia Blog is saying that we should see the OTA in March, that will upgrade the Xperia Z which is launching on Android 4.1 to Android 4.2.2. It’s firmware is also different, which is 11.1.A.1.450. But this is supposedly a beta version. Although we can still expect the final firmware version number to be in the form of 11.1.A.X.XXX when it is finally released.

The update also uses a new 3.6 kernel, on Android 4.1.2 firmware the Xperia Z was using the 3.4 kernel. Now from what we’ve heard, the March update is supposedly only going to be in Europe. Which kinda makes sense since that’s really the only region that has the Xperia Z ready or almost ready to be in customers hands. Obviously, this could be a fake, and should be treated like a rumor or leak. Because it is pretty easy to change your version number on your device with just a simple build.prop edit. Which I showed on Google+ earlier this week.

So if this is indeed true, it will probably make quite a few more people buy the device. Since we haven’t seen any leaks for other devices being upgraded to Android 4.2 besides Nexus devices. With Sony really trying to push this device, as they should be, it’ll be interesting to see how updates are handled. Typically Sony isn’t all that great with updating their devices. But we’re going to cross our fingers and hope that changes with the Sony Xperia Z, we’ve seen Samsung really change how fast they push out updates with the Galaxy S3 and getting updated to Android 4.1.1. So Sony could do the same thing with the Xperia Z.

Any of our readers planning on picking up the Xperia Z? Does this make you want to pick it up even sooner now? Let us know in the comments below.
