As Android users, one thing we complain about the most is the lack of battery life on our devices. Now the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx ushered in a new breed of batteries, putting a 3300mAh non-removable battery in that device. Now others are looking to do the same. But what about those that can’t afford to buy the Droid Razr Maxx, or don’t want to be on Verizon? Well there are plenty of tips to keep your battery going longer, and that’s what we’ll be talking about today.
- Wi-Fi: If you’re in an area where there is Wi-Fi, I’d recommend using it. But if there isn’t any Wi-Fi networks around you, it’s a good idea to turn it off. As it’ll be using juice looking for Wi-Fi networks the entire time it’s not connected.
- Sync: It’s a good idea to have uploads and sync going on Wi-Fi only or once an hour. If it’s something like your corporate email, you might not be able to get away with syncing once an hour. But Syncing every5 minutes will use quite a bit of battery and data.
- Uninstall Apps: If there are apps you aren’t using, go ahead and uninstall them. Sometimes they will run in the background. But they are also taking up space on your phone that could be freed up.
- Screen Brightness: Another thing is the brightness on your display. If you’re indoors, you probably don’t need your display’s brightness turned up all the way. Your display is the #1 battery sucker, and turning down the brightness will do wonders.
- Widgets: While they are cool and all, they are also battery intensive, as well as data intensive. Having a Facebook or Twitter widget on your home screen is going to take a toll on both your data usage and battery.
- Haptic Feedback: Haptic feedback is pretty cool, and I really like it. But it does take some juice from your battery, and turning it off, you’ll notice a big difference.
- GPS: It’s okay to leave it on. Most apps nowadays only use GPS for a short amount of time. And leaving GPS on doesn’t really put a hit on your battery.
- Juice Defender: I’m not a huge fan of this app, but I’ve been told that this can do wonders for extending your battery life. There is a free version on the Play Store if you want to try it.
If you follow some of these tips, you’ll likely see a nice increase in your battery life. There are more things you can do, but that requires rooting and we’ll be covering that in our Intermediate Guide. We don’t want to overwelm you yet.
