This is some pretty big news, but the AOKP team has just released build 4 of their Android 4.2 ROM and it is now based off of Android 4.2.2 instead of Android 4.2.1. The team has also added a few new team members including dhacker, Hashcode, and Quan. Now this of course brought support for a few new devices, all of which are listed below:
- evita – HTC One XL
- maserati – Motorola Droid 4 (XT894)
- solana – Motorola Droid 3 (XT862)
- spyder – Motorola Droid RAZR (VZW / XT912)
- targa – Motorola Droid Bionic (XT875)
- toroplus – Galaxy Nexus (Sprint)
- umts_spyder – Motorola Droid RAZR (GSM / XT910)
I don’t know about all of you, but I’m definitely excited for those with a Motorola device on Verizon. I’m also pretty surprised to see the Droid 3 and 4 being supported in addition to the Droid Bionic and both the GSM and Verizon OG Razr. Now the Sprint Galaxy Nexus we knew would be added soon since they were supported through their ICS and Android 4.1 AOKP builds, along with the HTC One XL.
There are a ton of new features in this update. You can check out all of the merges in their gerrit. Currently builds are rolling out, but not all of them are available as of yet. So you may want to check their release page back in an hour or two when more are available. Currently these builds are available for download:
- mako
- maguro
- toro
- grouper
- tilapia
- manta
- a510
- d2att
- d2tmo
Those of you wondering, we do have the link to Google Apps package that you should be using. Now before you install this ROM, if you aren’t coming from JB-MR1 Build 3, you should wipe data and dalvik cache before flashing. Old data can mess up the ROM, especially if you’re coming from stock (not stock Android).
So happy flashing. Let us know in the comments below how you’re liking this new build of AOKP. We’re interested to see how well it’s working for everyone.
