We were all hoping for ASUS to spice thing sup at this year’s MWC and with the Padfone Infinity it looks like they’ve done just that. Despite the fact that the PadFone line hasn’t always been that successful, they’re back again with another smartphone and tablet combo. Featuring updated specs and more processing power than before, the PadFone Infinity is the best PadFone yet. There’s a lot to this latest do-it-all device, here are the headlining specs:
- 5-inch smartphone with 1080p that gets 441ppi
- Quad-Core Snapdragon 600 CPU at 1.7 Ghz
- 2GB of RAM
- 32GB or 64GB of Storage
- Support for major wireless standards including: EDGE, GPRS, GSM, WCDMA, LTE and DC-HSPA+
- GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and GLONASS Support
- 13 Megapixel AF Camera with f/2.0 lens and burst-shooting up to 8 fps
- 2MP front-facing camera
- 2,400 mAh battery
- Android 4.2
But they’re just the specs for the phone side of things, the tablet dock has seen a little bit of an upgrade as well:
- 10.1-inch Full HD 1920 x 1200 Display
- 400 Nits brightness – for those keeping score, that’s the same as the new Chromebook Pixel
- Up to 40 hours of talk time when docked with the phone
ASUS seem pretty happy with what they’ve delivered with the PadFone infinity and they’ve kept the software mostly stock Android, as they have done in the past. There are a few added bonuses such as ASUS’ “Audio Wizard” software which should help you tune the audio to a number of different situations. SuperNote is back with some tweaks and there’s 50GB of online storage through their WebStorage service – nice naming there, ASUS. They’ve done their best to throw in utilities that push the device as a do-anything, go-anywhere sort of device, with an instant translator being one of the key features. Design wise, the PadFone itself looks a little bit like the HTC One and has a nice brushed metal finish to it which is apparently made of “aerospace aluminum”. The PadFone logo also doubles as an NFC antenna.
Availability has never been ASUS’ strong suit when it comes to the PadFone and Engadget are reporting that it won’t be available in the US but, it will be on shelves across the pond in the UK. It’s going to cost around £799 for the phone and dock together, which is pretty pricey, indeed. There are a few colors to choose from as well, with gray, gold and a fetching hot pink on offer.
