Trigger is a highly customizable new launcher app available on the Google Play Store that uses gestures to start apps. The app was initially announced last summer when the team released a teaser show-casing its features.
The launcher app displays an icon on the screen that if pressed, enables the user to draw a gesture to launch the desired app. The gestures that can be used are configurable, letting you choose whatever drawing you want to call an app or display a setting. You can also check drawn gestures in a pretty neat way, displaying how accurate the gesture made was.
The app icon stays in the fore-ground at all times by default, but that can be changed to display the time, a picture from your gallery, or a couple of other things. You can also assign actions based on where you drag and drop the icon. In the video example, the developer used the north (or upward) drag and drop to call on the recent apps screen and the right (or eastward) drag and drop to go to show the app drawer. This actions can be customized as well.
You can also move the app’s icon where you like on the screen by pressing and holding on the icon. If you find it annoying to be always on the screen, you can choose to hide or display the icon when pressing on the search key. This can also be done by using the notification bar or by shaking the phone.
The app is available in a ad-supported and a paid version. The ad-supported version comes with the limitation that you can choose only up to 6 gestures and that you cannot change the Trigger icon (not to mention the added lag from the ads).
The paid version is available on the Google Play Store for the price of $1.99 (or €1.49) with unlimited gestures and no ads.
So if you like a gesture-centered launcher that is highly customizable and lightweight (not to mention that it’s under 1 MB – a thing that counts if you have a phone with small internal memory) give the ad-supported version a try to take it for a test-drive.
