Some of you may know, or even have Google’s Senior Vice President of Engineering, Vic Gundotra in your Google+ circles. This morning, Vic made a post on Google+ related to him going on vacation and whether he should take his DSLR with him or not. As per usual, Vic was replying to many of the comments, but one comment really stood out. Which is shown in the image below.
Basically, Vic said that Google is going to be making some insanely good cameras for the Nexus lineup. Hopefully we see that soon. But it’s interesting to see that he said “Nexus” and not “our phones” which could have pointed to the X Phone, but it’s not. It’s clear that the Nexus 4 had a big upgrade to the camera compared to the Galaxy Nexus. But it’ll be interesting to see what kind of upgrades we see in the future. We’ve already see a completely new camera app, along with the addition of Photo Sphere in Android 4.2.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’d love to be able to take my phone with me to take pictures instead of a DSLR camera or some other great camera, wouldn’t you?Vic also said “Just you wait and see” which is something we don’t normally like to do, but unfortunately we’ll have to for now. We’re still hoping for something big at Google I/O in May. Which of course we’ll be bringing you all the news from San Francisco, and hopefully the news of Android 5.0 – Key Lime Pie and a few new devices to play with.
So it’s not much information, but is still pretty interesting. So how soon before we see these camera updates? I’m willing to bet we’ll see it in Android 5.0. I’m expecting Key Lime Pie to be a huge upgrade, and some brand new camera and photo software would really help out with that. What do you think? Would you love your Nexus device to replace your DSLR camera? Let us know in the comments below.
