Huawei Ascend P2 Set for Debut at MWC 2013

MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2013 is finally here, well it’s in Barcelona, Spain, but this is where we can have an in-depth look at the world’s latest and greatest, with plenty of offerings to look forward to. We’ve already put the Galaxy Note 8.0 on the spotlight, and we will have plenty more where that comes from. This time though, we’re talking about Huawei, who has been hiding their new premium smartphone, the Ascend P2, behind glass walls. We’ve seen some leaks and heard some rumors about this smartphone, which is still unconfirmed as of this time of writing, but what has been circulating around seems real promising for the Chinese tech company.

Huawei has previously focused on entry-level markets in regards to smartphones, from their first Ascend which was featured on Cricket and Metro PCS, up to their mid-range Mercury. They’ve seemingly put more effort into this one, with the same respect as its predecessor, where the internal hardware would rest in the premium category, which in turn would set a new benchmark for the company. We’ve seen their Ascend Mate and the Ascend D2 announced at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) a little over a month ago, so let’s see what Huawei has to bring to the world with the P2.
The specifications are expected to feature:
  • 4.7 inch 1080p Full HD IPS Display
  • 1.8 GHz quad-core processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 8GB Internal Storage
  • 3,000 mAh battery
  • 13 mega pixel rear camera, 1.3 mega pixel front
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
These features are similar to other premium smartphones set to be unleashed, so it will have to really impress in order to not get lost in the sea of technology.  One thing that may impress some is that, according to rumor, features IP54 certification, which means that it is water and dust-resistant.  It may not be the ideal phone to take underwater pictures while shark hunting, but it would mean that it can withstand more than your average accidental exposure, like dropping it in a puddle.  Huawei has recently taken 3rd place in overall smartphone sales, so it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise if this device were to do well this year.   There is a lot more to come, and we’ll be on top of the news to keep you updated, so stay tuned for more as the time approaches the unveiling of Huawei’s latest addition to the Ascend series.
