Jelly Bean On Its Way to the Sprint LG Optimus G

Many of you were probably thinking why would LG ship the Optimus G on Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich? Well who knows, but we do know that Jelly Bean is coming real soon. So far there’s no official changelog for Android 4.1.2, but it is rolling out. It does look like it might have rolled out early, as Sprint has not made an announcement on their site about it, It also appears that LG may have pushed the update early. Which is good news for Optimus G owners on AT&T. The file is roughly about 474MB in size. The LS970ZVB firmware is already out. If you’re looking to download the file manually, XDA has it for your flashing needs. Did you really expect them not to have it?

So what’s new in Android 4.1.2? Well on the Android side we’ve got Google Now, enhanced notifications, Project Butter among many other new features and fixes. Then on LG’s side they have enhanced the QSlide function and added a few more features like Privacy Keeper, Quiet Time and much more.

As usual, when getting an OTA, you’ll need to be on stock ROM. You’ll also probably lose root. Which you can keep if you first apply OTA Root Keeper before the update. Sprint will probably start rolling out this update officially in the next few days or week at the latest. Since it looks like it’s ready to go. We’ll also be awaiting the official announcement from Sprint with the full changelog. If you check out the image above, this OTA looks kind of weird.

So far there’s no word on the AT&T Optimus G update, but we’re going to cross our fingers and hope it’ll be coming out in the next few weeks at the latest. But then again, we know how AT&T likes to delay updates to their devices.

How many of you that own the Sprint Optimus G are going to go ahead and manually flash this update to Android 4.1.2? Let us know in the comments below how it works out for you, and how you are liking the update from Ice Cream Sandwich.
