The LG Optimus G has been a huge success for LG. It’s currently available on both Sprint and AT&T here in the US, and just now rolling out in Europe. Then the Optimus G Pro was announced last weekend, and will probably show it’s face at Mobile World Congress next week. Now we’re hearing rumors about the Optimus G2, the Optimus G successor. According to an anonymous LG executive who was quoted by the Korea Times, the Optimus G2 will be announced at IFA in Berlin. Which takes place September 6-11th. That’s also the same show that the Galaxy Note 2 was announced at….well technically it was announced the day before at Samsung’s Unpacked event.
The processors will be used in LG’s next flagship Optimus smartphone ― the Optimus GII ― which will probably be unveiled in this fall’s IFA trade fair,” said an LG official by telephone, Thursday.
This is from the article that discusses the new octo-core processor that LG is supposedly working on. It’s codenamed Odin. The Korea Times’ post does also confirm that the LG Optimus G2 will be powered by LG’s newly designed octo-core processor. It will be interesting to see if LG has the same trouble with their octo-core processor as Samsung is apparently having with their Exynos 5 Octa which should be in the Galaxy S4.
There are about 196 days left until IFA begins. So we aren’t going to read to much into this as of yet. We have other things to worry about like Mobile World Congress and Google I/O. Mobile World Congress starts next week, and we’ll be seeing a plethora of new devices announced. So make sure you stay tuned to Android Headlines for all the latest news from Barcelona.
