On Sunday LG announced the LG Optimus G Pro. And now we have two videos posted to the company’s Korean Youtube channel showing off two new features that LG has built into it’s latest flagship device. In case you missed it the specs are:
- 5.5-inch (1920—1080 pixels) Full HD, IPS AMOLED display, 400 ppi (curved glass)
- 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor
- Adreno 320 GPU
- Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
- 3140 mAh battery
- 13 MP rear camera with LED flash and full HD video recording
Impressive to say the least. The device went on sale in Korea last week, and we will be expecting to see plenty more of this phone at next week’s MWC 2013 in Barcelona. These new feature’s aren’t necessarily mind-blowing. Google has had panorama capability built into Android since 4.0 and the photo sphere feature comes with an update to 4.2. But the dual-recording feature could be cool, especially for new parents or for someone recording a family event. ‘Dual Recording’ basically uses the phone’s front facing camera to capture the face of whoever is holding the phone. The video shows a father interacting with a child, and the video captures what the kid is reacting to. Again, not life-changing, but certainly interesting for those who like to capture every moment of their lives from every angle.
The VR Panorama feature does have an auto-focus feature that is supposed to be able to follow a moving object as you piece a 360 degree image together. As to how well this works, we will have to wait and see once this device is out in the wild. I can’t imagine these being “killer” features, but in an increasingly competitive marketplace, OEM’s have to differentiate themselves in any way possible.
It certainly takes some time to piece a large 369 degree image together, so it doesn’t work well for capturing specific moments. But if I were showing my new apartment to family on the other side of the country or taking a big group picture, its easy to see this being a neat tool to use. For those of you who have Android 4.2 running on your device, do/have you used the photosphere feature? Let us know if this would influence your purchasing decision once you’ve checked out the videos below.
