Mobile World Congress is just around the corner and you can guarantee that when it all starts, the Android news coming out of the event is going to be coming thick and fast. Even with Samsung rumored not to be holding a press event at all, there should be plenty of mobile action for us to get behind. HTC is holding two events later this month, just before MWC in New York and London, which means that HTC might be vacant as well.
What does this mean then? Well, it leaves room for companies like LG and Huawei to muscle in and snatch more of the limelight for themselves. We know some of LG’s plans for this year, namely a 1080p packing version of the Optimus G, dubbed the “Pro” but we don’t know what else they’ve got in store for us. It looks like they’ve given us a little bit of a clue though, with their invites that are getting sent out to the press. The number 4 is featured in their press invites for an MWC press event and it’s likely that LG will announce a series of devices this year. The Optimus G Pro and its 1080p display should be featured heavily and there’s nothing to suggest that they don’t have another flagship or similar device to show off, either. To make up the number 4, LG could well be releasing their new line of “L series” devices as well.
I wonder how well the strategy of releasing more device is going to work for LG after all, they’re not known for their support once a phone has been released. Surely, releasing more and more of these devices will only make things worse when it comes to updates? Regardless of what LG are going to be bringing to the show, it looks like MWC is going to be a good show this year as Huawei – who are now one of the top five smartphone manufacturers in the world – will once again be looking to make a name for themselves at the show.
The question is can LG announce anything that will compete with Samsung’s Galaxy S IV which is rumored to be announced in March?
