Are mid-range phones a bad thing? I’d say that they weren’t, especially if they’re delivered with a good-quality build and enough performance to do everything you might need day-today. When covering Android news we hear of so many high-end superphones that we get a little lost in all the glorious specifications that are packed into these svelte devices. There’s still room for decent mid-range devices, especially if they’re priced well. Considering most of us have a tablet with us as well, why do we all need a massive, expensive, high-end device? Well, not all of us do and LG have realized this and are going to be giving us the F5 and F7 later this year.
It seems that LG’s branding is getting a little murkier with the F series, along with the L series and the G series but, we suppose the addition of a number makes things all the clearer…right? Regardless of branding, let’s take a look at these two mid-range offerings. First up is the F5 – the lesser of the two devices – and should be coming with the following specs:
- 4.3-inch IPS Display with a resolution of 960 x 540
- 1.2 Ghz Dual-Core CPU
- 1GB of RAM
- 8GB of Storage with MicroSD Card slot
- 5MP camera, 1.3 MP front-facing camera
- 2150 mAh battery
- Android 4.1.2
So overall, the F5 doesn’t look too bad a device, it’s a shame that LG couldn’t fit a 720p display in that 4.3-inch display but, hopefully that’s reflected in the cost. If you’re not looking for a large-screened device and you don’t want a pay a premium for it, this might be a good option.
The F7’s blood is a little richer however and comes with the following, fairly respectable, specs:
- 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 IPS Display
- 1.5 Ghz Dual-Core CPU
- 2GB of RAM
- 8GB of Storage with MicroSD Card slot
- 8MP Camera with 1.3 MP front-facing camera
- 2540 mAh battery
- Android 4.1.2
LG have a couple of decent phones to offer but, are LG flooding the market with too many devices? What’s going to separate their F series from the L series? We all know that their G series is reserved for their flagship devices but, it’s starting to look LG are throwing too many devices out there. The F5 will be heading to Europe in Q2, with the F7 coming to “select markets” later this year.
We’re sure that LG will have a lot to show off at MWC this year but, does this excite any of you out there?
