Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 Users; Here is How You Can Get Android 4.2.2

Those that have been using a Nexus phone for some time are used to seeing new updates appear quickly and this sort of thing being reported in Android news but, the Nexus 7 was the first tablet to come under the Nexus umbrella and it’s times like these that it really shows. We’ve been hearing rumors of Android 4.2.2 coming for a while now and last night was the first time that we heard something concrete. Users on Reddit found the update rolling out to some Nexus 7s and Nexus 10s.

Now, just like we did earlier with the Galaxy Nexus – of the “takju” variety – we’ve got download links and instructions on how to install them to your Nexus 7 or Nexus 10. The download links are below and instructions for the more faint of heart will be further below.

In order to install the update, you’ll have to be already running the JOP40D build of Jelly Bean, it’s wise to not try it if you’re running something earlier than that. There are, of course, a couple of ways in which you can apply the update to your device. If you’re bone-stock without a custom recovery installed then you’ll have to go through the sideload route, which means you’ll have to have adb installed. First of all you’ll need to boot your Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 into recovery. Which is down by holding power and volume down on the Nexus 7, and for the Nexus 10 it’s the same. When you’re in the stock recovery, plug your Nexus tablet into your PC and select “apply update from adb” and use the command “adb sideload <update zip full name.zip>”

If you’re running a custom recovery then you should just be able to download the .zip and flash it as you would anything else. If you don’t know what you’re doing, then just wait patiently for Google to roll it out to everyone. There’s no changelog for these updates just yet but, there should be one soon. For all intents and purposes, this looks like a big-fix release for Android 4.2, so let us know if you’ve got it installed and tell us what feels different to you, if anything.
