By now, we should all know that NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 chip is pretty fast. Of course,you’d expect that from a next-generation processor, right? Although something that can slow it down is the storage. If the storage is slow, then the processor is going to slow down as well. This is why SanDisk has negotiated a repeat partnership as NVIDIA’s official storage supplier for their reference Tegra 4 Tablets. If you open up one of these reference tablets, you’ll find either 16GB or 32GB of SanDisk’s iNAND Extreme keeping up with this new quad-core processor from NVIDIA.
This deal between SanDisk and NVIDIA might be for more than just publicity as it raises the chance that companies will use the speedier flash memory in their own Tegra 4 tablets. Now whether this deal makes SanDisk shipping their iNAND Extreme storage to devices or not, it could lead to balanced tablet hardware that will probably never leave us waiting. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’d love to have a tablet with the Tegra 4 and 32GB of SanDisk’s iNAND Extreme. It sounds like something that would be blazing fast. Hopefully we’ll see some tablets with both inside later this year.
Here’s what SanDisk’s SVP of OEM Marketing had to say about this deal today, “We knew we needed to offer an outstanding SanDisk flash memory storage solution to match up to NVIDIA’s impressive Tegra 4 processor.” He went on to say, “Our iNAND Extreme product provides tremendous storage performance and high reliability to the NVIDIA Tegra 4 platform, drawing on SanDisk’s 25-year legacy of enabling the industry’s most innovative digital devices.”
So it’s clear that SanDisk is obviously excited about this partnership with NVIDIA. Hopefully NVIDIA will stand a chance against their competitors of Qualcomm and Samsung/Exynos this year. Who also announced some pretty good chips at CES last month. Like the Snapdragon 800 and Exynos 5 Octa. I’d love to get my hands on one of these Tegra 4 reference tablets though.
